Front Nine: 3rd Hole

382 Yards - Par 4
The 3rd is not a long par four, but it will be a tricky hole to conquer. The sloping fairway will tend to shed balls off to the left, so the controlled fade from the tee will be the best option to achieve optimum placement. The drive bunkers have been located just where the good drive should end up. It is a game of risk and reward.

The steeply uphill second will make clubbing difficult, especially when hitting from the sloping fairway. The green is set on a shelf and the bank to the right can be used to good effect to bring balls back onto the green. The shot missing to the left, however, will be in trouble with the wide reaching boughs of the ash ready to block recoveries.

The walls all around the site are a characteristic feature of the Rhode Island countryside.

Early land grants dictated that farmers had to enclose their fields and the creation of the walls was the most practical way to do so, given the rockiness of the ground. The scale of the task for the first colonial settlers was staggering and areas such as the historic "White Stone Field" of the 12th fairway are a testament to their commitment to the New World.
